Civil justice
Since the beginning of the 1980s, each civil court must keep a general register of the matters referred to it. The general civil register (RGC) supplies the main statistical data describing disputes referred to the courts, the method used to settle disputes, and the period of time required to handle matters. The tribunals for social security matters and the court of cassation are not concerned by article 726 of the Code of civil procedure and keep their own statistics. Judicial jurisdictions are competent to hear disputes opposing individuals (civil justice) and to punish criminal law offences (criminal justice).
