Meaning of Composite household

In the statistical sense of the term, composite households are those that contain more than one family or several isolated persons, or any other combination of isolated persons and families. A family includes at least two people and is made up of either a couple (married or otherwise) with or without children, or an adult with one or more children. The children of a family must be single (and not have any children of their own). These households are described as composite because the types of relation (blood relation, friendship, etc.) may vary greatly between the people, they include, among others, households in which several generations cohabit, as well as people living in a situation of co-tenancy, but it is difficult to establish a standard configuration of these households.
