OPTAD
OPTAD: Organization of Pacific Trade and Development. It was proposed in 1979 as an organization linking the countries of the Pacific Rim, but it never reached the negotiating stage. Its proponents thought that it would act as forum for the resolution of economic problems, to provide a stimulus for investment and trade flows into the region, to provide a forum for the longer-term economic transformation of the region and to form the foundation for a more constructive approach to the expansion of relations with the Soviet Union, China and Vietnam. Its prospective membership would have included most of the economies that are now the APEC members.
