Couple within a household (census survey)
This definition is used in some statistical analyses to study family composition of households, and especially families with child(ren). It corresponds to couples consisting of a man and a woman, aged at least 14 years, living in the same main residence and who meet (with some exception) at least one of following two criteria : they both declare to be married or they both declare to live in a union. The couples so defined are de facto couples, married or not. Statistics on these couples have been computed from the census questionnaire. This definition of couple allows in particular comparisons with past general censuses. An other definition of couple is used for more general purposes.
