Employment (population census)
Employed persons in the sense of the population census are those who declared they had a job on the census form. This job is counted either in the municipality of the workplace or in the municipality of residence. This notion is different from that of employment in the sense of the ILO which concerns all persons who worked for any amount of time, if only for one hour, during a given week (called reference week). The notion of employment in the sense of the census is therefore rather restrictive as compared to that in the sense of the ILO. Some people may consider that occasional jobs are not worth declaring in the census. However, certain activities, mainly volunteer activities, may be declared in the population census.
