Nationality
Nationality is a legal link between an individual and a given State. This link gives rise to obligations for those persons possessing French nationality, in return for which they are granted political, civil and professional rights, as well as the benefit of civil liberties. French nationality can be the result : - of attribution by filiation (jus sanguinis) or by birth in France (jus soli) , - of acquisition further to personal events (marriage to a French national, for example) or a decision by the French authorities (naturalisation). French nationality is granted as a right from birth : - to children, either legitimate or born outside marriage, of whom at least one of the parents is French (jus soli) , - to children, either legitimate or born outside marriage, born in France when at least one of the parents was also born there (double jus soli).
