Victimhood Survey – Living environment and security / CVS
Conducted by INSEE since 2007, the purpose of the victimhood survey – living environment and security (CVS) is to take account of any criminal acts of which households and their members have been victim in the two years preceding the survey. It includes burglaries, theft or damage of vehicles or accommodation, whether or not these offences were the subject of a complaint. The survey also covers personal theft, physical violence, threats and insults as well as the opinions of the respondents on their living environment and security. The survey is conducted annually on around 25,500 households in metropolitan France. Before 2007 INSEE measured the rate of crime experienced by the population and their sense of insecurity as part of the Permanent Living Conditions Survey (EPCV).
