Pool (1) A location in an active stream channel, usually located on the outside bends of meanders, where the wate is deepest and has reduced current velocities. (2) A deep reach of a stream, a part of the stream with depth greater than the surrounding areas frequented by fish. The reach of a stream between two riffles, a small and relatively deep body of quiet water in a stream or river. Natural streams often consist of a succession of pools and riffles.
